Description
TecCera supplies Ceramic-to-Metal Hermetic Sealing Components, precision metallized alumina ceramic components for reliable ceramic-to-metal joining, vacuum-tight sealing, electrical insulation, and high-temperature applications.
High-purity alumina combines excellent electrical insulation, thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength. Through Mo/Mn metallization and subsequent metal plating, selected ceramic surfaces can be prepared for brazing or joining with compatible metal components.
Custom components can be manufactured according to customer drawings, dimensional requirements, metallization patterns, plating specifications, and application conditions.
Typical applications include vacuum electronics, high-voltage feedthroughs, X-ray equipment, relays, sensors, power electronics, medical devices, and hermetically sealed electronic assemblies.
Key Features

Precision Finishing
Grinding, lapping, polishing, and selective metallization can be specified for critical joining and sealing surfaces.
Ceramic-to-Metal Joining Process
1. Ceramic Preparation
Alumina components are cleaned and prepared to ensure suitable surface conditions for metallization.
2. Metallization Application
Mo/Mn metallization is selectively applied to the required joining areas.
3. Metallization Firing
The metallization layer is fired under controlled conditions to develop strong adhesion to the ceramic surface.
4. Metal Plating
Nickel or another specified metal layer is applied to prepare the metallized surface for brazing or further joining.
5. Assembly
The ceramic and metal components are positioned according to the required joint geometry.
6. Brazing
The ceramic component is joined to the corresponding metal part using a suitable brazing alloy and controlled thermal process.
7. Inspection and Leak Testing
Dimensional inspection, visual inspection, joint evaluation, and helium leak testing can be performed according to application requirements.

Design Considerations
The performance of a ceramic-to-metal assembly depends not only on the ceramic material, but also on the metallization geometry, metal selection, thermal expansion compatibility, brazing alloy, joint design, operating temperature, voltage, vacuum level, and mechanical loading.
Key design factors include:
- Ceramic grade
- Metal counterpart
- Thermal expansion compatibility
- Metallization location and geometry
- Plating material
- Brazing alloy
- Joint geometry
- Operating temperature
- Vacuum requirement
- Voltage requirement
- Leak-rate requirement
Why Use Alumina for Ceramic-to-Metal Sealing?
Alumina is one of the most widely used technical ceramics for hermetic electrical and vacuum applications because it combines:
- High electrical resistivity
- High dielectric strength
- Good mechanical strength
- Excellent thermal stability
- Low outgassing characteristics
- Chemical resistance
- Compatibility with established Mo/Mn metallization processes
These properties make metallized alumina suitable for ceramic-to-metal assemblies where electrical insulation and reliable mechanical joining are required simultaneously.

FAQ
What is ceramic-to-metal sealing?
Ceramic-to-metal sealing combines an electrically insulating ceramic component with a metal part to create a mechanically stable and, where required, hermetically sealed assembly.
Why is Mo/Mn metallization used on alumina ceramics?
Mo/Mn metallization creates a bonded metallic layer on alumina surfaces that can subsequently be plated and brazed to compatible metal components.
Can the metallization pattern be customized?
Yes. Metallization areas can be customized according to component geometry, joining surfaces, and customer drawings.
Can hermeticity be tested?
Yes. Helium leak testing can be performed when required by the application and agreed technical specification.
What metals can be brazed to metallized alumina?
Common metal counterparts include Kovar, nickel-based alloys, stainless steel, copper, and other compatible metals. Final selection depends on thermal expansion, brazing temperature, mechanical design, and operating conditions.
What information is required for quotation?
A drawing is preferred. Please provide ceramic material, dimensions, tolerances, metallization areas, plating requirements, metal counterpart, quantity, operating temperature, voltage, vacuum or hermeticity requirements, and application details.
Can TecCera manufacture components from customer drawings?
Yes. Dimensions, ceramic grade, metallization pattern, plating, tolerances, and joining requirements can be customized based on customer drawings.
