Rectangular MACOR® Machinable Glass Ceramic Sheets
TecCera supplies rectangular MACOR® machinable glass ceramic sheets for electrical insulation, vacuum equipment, semiconductor systems, laboratory instruments, and high-temperature applications.
MACOR® combines the performance of a technical ceramic with the machinability of a softer engineering material. It can be turned, milled, drilled, tapped, and ground using conventional metalworking equipment. Because no post-firing is required after machining, prototypes and small production batches can be completed more efficiently than many conventional ceramic components.
Rectangular sheets are available as blanks or can be precision-machined according to your drawings, including holes, slots, pockets, threads, steps, and other complex features.

Why Use MACOR® Instead of Alumina?
The main advantage of MACOR® is machinability. Alumina components normally require specialized ceramic forming, firing, and diamond grinding processes. MACOR® can be machined using conventional equipment without post-firing, making it particularly suitable for prototypes, low-volume orders, complex geometries, and designs that may require dimensional adjustments.
Alumina may still be the better choice when the application requires higher hardness, greater wear resistance, higher mechanical strength, or more demanding operating temperatures.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can MACOR® sheets be drilled or threaded?
Yes. MACOR® can be drilled, milled, turned, tapped, and ground using conventional metalworking equipment. Appropriate machining parameters and careful tool selection are required to minimize chipping.
Is MACOR® suitable for vacuum applications?
Yes. Its zero apparent porosity and low-outgassing characteristics make it suitable for many high-vacuum and ultra-high-vacuum components. Suitability should still be evaluated against the specific vacuum level, cleaning process, temperature, and sealing requirements.
What is the maximum operating temperature?
MACOR® can be used continuously at temperatures up to 800°C and can withstand short-term exposure up to 1000°C under no-load conditions.
